Calabogie Rocked!

Did you actually go that way? We reached the 13 South exit to find it was closed, and we ended up on a detour through crowded surface streets all the way down to 20. We had gone the same way going north, and while 13 was open, the traffic was thick, and stop-and-go in places. Next time I think I'll just avoid Montreal altogether.

We saw that sign but that was for 20 WEST (OUEST en Français) - you needed to keep on going to the end of 13 (a very sharp right turn in a tunnel under Highway 20) and merge onto the 20 going East (EST en Français).

I found ANOTHER record that no one wil beat: I was the 1st COM member to SPIN at Calabogie (at Watts up). Pete McP can confirm this ... my passenger seat is still smelling...

What a great event. I'd like to thank the many people stepped up to the plate to make this happen, and it was seamless.
How about the challenge of learning this 20 turn, 3 mile track?
IMO this track had everything. In the future when the amenities improve (what they have done is top notch) it can only get better.
In my book it's a close second to Mosport. Let's keep both!

Thanks goodness most seem to want both tracks. I enjoyed Calabogie, but Mosport is my favorite. Of course, that was in the slobomatic Sentra, now in the grocery getter, I might really scare myself!
For me, Calabogie was a front tire eater. I have not yet found a way to curb my enthusiam to mash the throttle midway through the corners and the resulting wheel spin "shaved" my front RA1s down to 3/32 Nice even wear, too. Gawd, that 280 lb of torque does feel great, though!
I look forward to Calabogie again as it is a good track on which to learn about all the major points of driving fast.

By the way, I have the best way through Montreal: coming back, get off 40 on 13 South for 2 miles to 20 East that joind RT 10 to go over the bridge. By passes most of the downtown Montral traffic.

I did go that way- no traffic on 13; 20 traffic only as you got close to the bridge merge with 15. We came through Weds. about noon after picking up my trailer at 9:30 at the track and seeing crazy Raj going back out on the track.

I'm really glad everyone liked it. The idea of cutting Mosport for 2008 is freaking insane.

There were some very nice compliments given from the track administration. They said COM was THE most organized track day that had seen. A true compliment to Alex, Bruce and the gang. They were very impressed at our the lap times, not only the crazy 2:08, but others in the 2:20s. We were hustling out there compared to other clubs that have visited. I guess going fast is nothing new to COM guys.

Gordon, i dunno if i can say there are no scary spots. I almost crapped myself when the tail twitched out of the kink at 100+mph If you go balls out into that thing and loop it to the inside you have a not so soft concrete wall to greet you.

Calabogie was great. Thanks to all the club members that made it happen. You would never have known it was our first event there. Track staff was also great. Flagging stations were helpfull and in my opinion, well placed. Challenging track and lots of fun to run.

Re; Mosport. Is there consideration being given to dropping this venue?

I'm not the biggest fan of NHIS and reserve my time primarily for the away events. Mosport is among my favorites. I also enjoy Summit Point and have made other arrangements to run there in the spring.

Yeah turn one could be a little uneasy if you turned a bit early while flat, especially when the RX-7 was sitting at the track out. 4left was the same, there seemed to be a bump or something that upset the car just before the apex. The back just started to come around near the trackout when taking flat and slightly offline.
That track deffinately kept your attention and took a lot of focus.

Now turn 2 at Mosport! You have time to say OH S**T! at least 7 times, that is a scary turn! but most rewarding when you go flat and nail it

I also got sudden oversteer out of both Kink and 4Left. I'm not sure how fast I was going at 4Left, but I'm way over 100 at the apex of Kink. Neither of those seem like good places to abandon the tarmac at high speed.

Regarding that bump on the apex of 4Left, both Paddy and Bruce The Owner initially thought I was smoking something when I mentioned it. Bruce's first question was whether I was hitting the curbing.

I experimented a bit on Wednesday morning. I found that if I got way tight against the curbing, I felt the bump. I didn't encounter it when I put my left wheels just on the white line (instead of a tiny bit inside it).

Or maybe my bum was a bit more pliant on Wednesday

Stephan Id be happy to show you the way around. But I think we should really be following Robert Ready around to see how he is so phenomenally fast at mosport. Myself and John never even approached his record there last year.

I think you did help me at calabogie, I noticed you stayed wide entering the hook I think that made the turn in a little smoother. That and keeping my right foot down through the kink and 4left made all the difference.

There is definitely a bump at 4Left and you can get really burned there if you are going fast enough and not braking too early for the early apex in 17. You must apex a little later than you might think at 4Left to allow for slide out on the bump.

Hi Mark: That is a great thing for me, thank you. To be able - as an instructor - to pass you pointers and you making it happen, especially on the day you got licensed. I am very happy for you.
I remember the times Fred Sanford and Ed Glyver gave me pointers that got me to be significantly more competitive. Even Allison last year at Mont Tremblant re: birch tree reference at the end of the straight, saved me beaucoup time there.

I did not notice ... maybe because of my extreme body roll I must have skipped it all together ...

There is definately a bump at 4left, I couldnt figure out how to avoid it other than to just ride it out. Just had to make sure I kept the foot in it all the way thru the turn but that burm comes at you pretty fast!

By the time I can get the car straightend out I almost run out of road slowing the car down into the quarry. Pucker up!

It wasn't that scary at all Stephan. I could almost see it coming. Looping it just about anywhere else would have been very scary.
